Got Questions?

Common Questions About Our Care

  • The number of sessions varies depending on your condition and health goals. Acute injuries may require 2–3 visits per week initially, while wellness maintenance may need just 1–2 visits per month. Dr. Brooks will create a personalized care plan after your initial evaluation.

  • Most patients find chiropractic adjustments comfortable and relieving. You may feel mild soreness after your first few visits — similar to post-exercise muscle soreness — as your body adapts. Dr. Brooks uses gentle, precise techniques tailored to your comfort level.

  • The popping sound is called cavitation — it's simply gas bubbles releasing from the fluid inside your joint. It is completely harmless and is not bones cracking against each other. Not every adjustment produces this sound, and no sound does not mean the adjustment was ineffective.

  • We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal and nerve-related conditions. These include lower and upper back pain, neck pain and stiffness, sciatica and radiating leg pain, herniated or bulging discs, chronic headaches and migraines, shoulder and hip pain, TMJ dysfunction, whiplash from auto accidents, sports injuries, repetitive strain injuries, and postural imbalances. We also provide wellness and preventive care for patients who want to maintain good spinal health rather than wait for a problem to develop. If you are unsure whether your condition is something we can help with, call us at (805) 457-5808 and we'll give you a straight answer.

  • Dr. Brooks is trained in several techniques and selects the most appropriate approach for each patient's condition and comfort level. These include Diversified technique (manual adjustments), Gonstead technique (highly specific, precise analysis and adjustment), Activator methods (instrument-assisted, suitable for patients who prefer lighter pressure), Thompson drop-table technique, and soft tissue therapy and muscle work. This range means we are never limited to a single approach — your care is built around what works best for you.

  • This depends on your specific condition, how long you have had it, and your health goals. For acute injuries — recent onset, significant pain — Dr. Brooks may recommend 2 to 3 visits per week initially, tapering as you improve. For ongoing or corrective care, 1 to 2 visits per week is typical. For maintenance and prevention, most patients find 1 to 2 visits per month sufficient to keep things on track. After your initial assessment, Dr. Brooks will give you a realistic picture of what to expect. We never push patients into more sessions than are genuinely needed.

  • For the great majority of patients, adjustments are comfortable and often immediately relieving. Some people experience mild muscle soreness after their first few visits — similar to how your body feels after exercising muscles you haven't used in a while — as it adapts to improved alignment. Dr. Brooks uses gentle, precise techniques and always works within your comfort level. If anything feels uncomfortable during a session, tell him and the approach will be adjusted on the spot.

  • The sound is called cavitation. It happens when a chiropractic adjustment causes a shift in pressure inside a joint, releasing dissolved gas — mainly carbon dioxide — from the joint fluid. It is entirely harmless and has nothing to do with bones cracking against each other. Not every adjustment produces a sound, and the absence of a pop does not mean the adjustment was ineffective. Some of the most beneficial adjustments are completely silent.

  • Your first visit at Cayucos Chiropractic takes around 45 to 60 minutes. It begins with a detailed health history and consultation — Dr. Brooks will ask about your current concerns, past injuries, lifestyle, and what you are hoping to achieve. He then carries out a physical examination that may include posture analysis, range of motion testing, and orthopedic and neurological assessment. He'll explain his findings in plain language and discuss your treatment options. If it is appropriate to begin treatment on the same visit, your first adjustment can take place the same day.

  • Follow-up visits are much shorter than the first appointment — typically 20 to 30 minutes. This includes a brief check-in on how you have been feeling since your last visit, any necessary reassessment, the adjustment itself, and any therapeutic exercises or stretches that form part of your care plan.

  • Yes. Chiropractic care is one of the safest forms of healthcare for musculoskeletal conditions when performed by a licensed practitioner. Dr. Kyle Brooks is a Doctor of Chiropractic trained at Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles. Serious complications from chiropractic adjustments are extremely rare. Dr. Brooks takes a thorough health history before treating any new patient and uses techniques appropriate to each individual's condition, age, and comfort level.

  • No referral is needed. You can contact Cayucos Chiropractic directly and book as a new patient. If you are currently seeing a physician or specialist for the same condition, we are happy to work collaboratively with them — but it is not a requirement to get started. Simply call or text (805) 457-5808.

  • We operate as an out-of-network provider for most insurance plans. After each visit, we can provide a detailed superbill that you may submit to your insurer for potential reimbursement. We accept HSA and FSA cards, and we also offer CareCredit—which you can use if you already have an account or apply for either at home or in our office using our Cayucos Chiropractic–specific link. Additionally, we offer package pricing to make ongoing care more financially accessible. Treatment costs vary based on your personalized care plan, and Dr. Brooks will walk you through all pricing options following your initial evaluation.

  • Yes. While our clinic is located in Cayucos, we regularly see patients from across the Central Coast including Morro Bay, Los Osos, Cambria, Atascadero, and San Luis Obispo. We do not offer home visits — all treatment takes place at our Cayucos clinic — but patients from surrounding communities are very welcome. Many find the short drive well worth it, particularly for specialist services like SoftWave Therapy that are not widely available in the area. Call us at (805) 457-5808 to book.
