Pediatric Chiropractic Care
Gentle, specialized chiropractic care designed specifically for infants, children, and adolescents.
Why Children Need Chiropractic Care
Children's bodies are constantly growing, developing, and adapting. From the physical stress of birth to the tumbles of learning to walk, from playground falls to sports injuries, from heavy backpacks to poor posture with devices—childhood presents countless opportunities for spinal misalignments and nerve interference.
Pediatric chiropractic care helps children's bodies develop properly, function optimally, and build strong foundations for lifelong health. Gentle adjustments support their nervous system, enhance immune function, and address common childhood health concerns naturally—without medications or invasive procedures.

Gentle Care for Growing Bodies
Pediatric chiropractic uses modified techniques that are safe and appropriate for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. Adjustments are gentle, often requiring no more pressure than you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato. Many children find their chiropractic visits comfortable and even enjoyable.
The birth process, falls during learning to walk, sports activities, heavy backpacks, and poor posture from device use can all create spinal stress in children. Early chiropractic care helps ensure that minor issues don't develop into larger problems as your child grows.
Supporting Healthy Development
Regular chiropractic care for children may support their overall health and development. Dr. Brooks takes time to make each child feel comfortable and safe during their visit. Parents are always present during care, and we encourage questions to help families understand how chiropractic supports their child's wellness.

Got Questions?
Common Questions About Pediatric Chiropractic Care
-
Yes. Pediatric chiropractic is safe when performed by a practitioner experienced in working with children. The techniques used for infants and young children are completely different from adult adjustments — the pressure involved is extremely light, often described as no more than the pressure you would use to check whether a tomato is ripe. There is no forceful manipulation or cracking. Dr. Brooks has specific training in pediatric care and adapts his approach to each child's age, size, and temperament. Parents are always present during treatment, and we take as much time as needed for the child to feel comfortable before anything begins.
-
There is no minimum age. Some parents bring newborns in within the first few weeks of life, particularly following difficult births involving forceps, vacuum assistance, or prolonged labour that may have placed stress on the baby's neck and spine. Dr. Brooks has experience caring for patients from newborns through to teenagers. The techniques are fully adapted to each age group — a check on a newborn looks nothing like a session for a twelve-year-old.
-
The birth process — even a straightforward one — places real physical stress on a newborn's spine and nervous system. More complex births involving interventions can increase this. Early chiropractic assessment can identify and gently address any tension or restriction in the upper cervical spine that may be contributing to issues like difficulty latching, head tilt, excessive crying, or disturbed sleep. As children grow, falls during learning to walk, sports activities, heavy school bags, and hours in front of screens can all create spinal stress. Chiropractic care helps ensure minor issues are addressed before they develop into larger problems.
-
For infants we commonly address birth-related tension, colic and excessive crying, difficulty nursing or latching, torticollis (head tilt), plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome), sleep disturbances, reflux, and recurrent ear infections. For toddlers and young children, growing pains, sleep issues, chronic ear infections, immune support, and developmental concerns are common. For school-age children and teenagers we treat postural problems, backpack-related strain, sports injuries, headaches, scoliosis management, tech neck from device use, and general wellness. If you are wondering whether a specific condition is something we can help with, call us and we'll give you an honest answer.
-
The session is calm and child-centred from start to finish. We take time for the child to get used to the environment before any treatment begins — there is no rush. For infants, treatment often involves very light fingertip pressure applied to specific points, often while the baby is being held by a parent. Many infants sleep through it. For older children, we use age-appropriate techniques, keep the atmosphere relaxed, and involve parents throughout. Visits are typically short. We want each visit to be a positive experience, not something a child dreads.
-
Pediatric adjustments should not hurt. The pressure used is far lighter than most parents expect — nothing like the adjustments adults receive. Most children tolerate the treatment very comfortably, and many enjoy their visits. If a child shows any sign of discomfort during a session, treatment stops immediately and we reassess. We never proceed if a child is distressed.
-
No referral is needed. You can book directly by calling or texting (805) 457-5808. If your child's paediatrician has concerns about a particular condition, we are happy to communicate with them and work as part of a broader care team. However, this is not a requirement to get started.
-
This varies depending on what we find in the initial assessment. Some children need just a few visits to address a specific issue. Others whose parents bring them in for general wellness may be seen less frequently on an ongoing basis. Dr. Brooks will be clear about what he recommends and why after the first appointment. There is no pressure to commit to a long-term programme upfront.
-
Many parents of colicky babies have found chiropractic care helpful, and there is growing clinical support for this. Colic is often associated with nerve irritation or tension in the upper cervical spine — areas that can be affected during birth. Gentle adjustments to release that tension may help reduce the frequency and severity of colicky episodes. We cannot promise a specific outcome, but it is an approach worth considering if your baby is unsettled and other causes have been ruled out.
